Caring for our best friends:
Sugar, Angel, Renee and Darlin' live in the house. The rest of the
dogs, except Jacob, are paired off into 30 yd. kennel runs with
doggy doors into the shop. They trade off with each other to get
to sleep in the house. Jacob has a run of his own. He gets to sleep
in the house at times as well.
The inside part of each kennel is 6' x 5'. Each one has a stall mat.
They have an automatic watering system, so they never run out
of water. They all have individual feeders as well. The shop is
heated, so they are very warm in the coldest of winter. In the hot
days of summer, the shop stays at least 15* cooler than the
outside temperature. There are 2 1/2 acres fenced in so they can
be let out, (supervised), to play and run.
There are 4 separate kennels on the adjacent corner for the
mothers and their puppies.
Maternity care and birthing:
As a rule, we breed our dogs for two cycles and rest them the
third. Depending on how fast the female recovers, we may go
ahead and breed her a third and possibly a fourth cycle.
Pregnancy, birthing, and nursing can be very stressful on the
females, so we keep a good eye on their recovery.
We give the mothers ample time to get used to being in the home
environment while they are pregnant so they are comfortable and
so we can assist with birthing. The mother and her pups are kept
in the house for about 3 weeks. George can watch them more
closely and of course, pamper the moms.
At 3-4 weeks, the mama and her babies are moved outside to the
maternity kennels. Here, mama can teach the pups to go outside
to go to the bathroom. This is called "potty training". This
makes it so much easier for the lucky people who buy a puppy to
"house break" the precious new addition to their family.
In the kennels, the weaning process is started around 4 1/2 weeks.
By the time they are six weeks, they are completely weaned and
solely on dry puppy food.

WE DO NOT INBREED!

JUST SAY
"NO!" TO PUPPY MILLS!
Excerpt from the book:
Golden Retrievers
By James E Walsh, Jr.
"A noble head...a gentle twinkle of the eye...a smiling face...a
vibrant burst of energy, running free as the wind...a wagging
tail, happily beating from side to side...a thundering splash
into icy waters in quest of game on a cold November day...a
joyful bounce, up and down like a clown, as a loved one
approaches...a shiny coat, glistening like a nugget of gold...a
noble parade through the house with a favorite possession
carried proudly in it's mouth...an enthusiastic search for
snowballs tossed by the family as they gather together to
build a snowman on a sunny winter's day...a comforting
nudge when you feel blue, just to remind you that you are
not alone..and, most of all, a contented ball of loyal,
unquestioning devotion curled up at your feet at the end of a
busy day. This is the essence of the Golden Retriever."
Small History of God's Golden Acres
God's Golden Acres is located in Leslie, MO in Franklin County and is about 12
miles south of Washington, MO or 12 miles west of Union, MO. We are an hour
from St. Louis, MO and St. Charles County in MO. George has been raising and
breeding golden retrievers with love, care and tenderness for 10+ years. All of the
dogs are A.K.C. Registered and George is a breeder in good standing with the
American Kennel Club. George and I have the utmost respect for these
extremely intelligent and compassionate animals. In our opinion, they are by far,
the most loyal companions and best friends.  These golden treasures are our
children. We are faithful Christians. NONE of this would not be possible without
Our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Health and medical care:
Adults:
We have 14 adults. This includes one Sire, our only male.
10 of the girls are our breeders, and the other 3 girls are retired
and have been spayed. None of our dogs have ever had problems
with allergies or hip problems. Our dear Rusty lived to be 12+
years old. He passed in June of 2007. We miss him terribly every
day. He was a large Golden, about 120 pounds and he died of old
age. The worst problem he had was arthritis near the end of his
wonderful life.

Puppies:
The pups are de-wormed beginning at 2 weeks of age and every
week thereafter. The day before they turn six weeks they are given
their first puppy shot. This vaccination is essential for the health
of the puppies. It includes vaccines for the following: Canine
Distemper, Adena Virus Type 2, Para Influenza and Parvo Virus.
They are watched for 24 hours to be sure there is no reaction to
the vaccine. We do everything we can to make sure our puppies
are fit and healthy before they go home. Customer satisfaction is
but just one of our priorities here at God's Golden Acres, but the
care of our Goldens comes first!
Going Home:
At 6 weeks our puppies are ready for a good home! We want to
meet the new owners in person, before we sell our puppies. We
want to be sure they are going to a good home and
NOT to a
puppy mill to live their lives confined. We do
NOT sell to people
who email and want to send a
"shipper" to pick up "the several
puppies they will be needing". If it sounds wrong, it probably is.
